Snow in Lake Jackson, TX on Christmas day 2005

Snow in Southeast Texas!

Christmas day 2004 brought snow to southeast Texas! Believe it or not the snow won't hurt a citrus tree or fruit unless the freeze is less than 28F. In Lake Jackson, TX 35 miles south of Houston, they got 8 inches of snow! Here in Beaumont we only saw a few stray flakes.  The weather service kept predicting freezes for 3 nights straight as low as 20F but at my house it only froze once.  My unprotected tropicals froze.  I spent a whole day covering my big trees, banking soil around the small ones, and dragging the 400 potted ones into the garage.
